Press release – Salvatore Falci: Algoritmi e Danger

Salvatore Falci is an artist who's been working on the national and international scene since the Eighties. Here on display his latest research: six oil paintings on canvas belonging to the “Algoritmi” (Algorithms) series, created in different scales starting from the mathematical elaboration of color of great examples of European painting. The artist has chosen six moments that characterize the development of painting as six turning points of profound significance in the evolution of Western visual culture, then subjecting them to a particular algorithm program that highlights their internal color structure. The result, in six different scales always connected to each other by mathematical relationships, has generated six different series, here shown choosing a specific scale from each of them, according to a decreasing trend, from contemporary painting to ancient painting. From the monumental piece dedicated to Yves Klein's blue to the roots of modernity with Édouard Manet and Rembrandt, to the Renaissance with Leonardo da Vinci and Masaccio, and finally, in the smallest size, as through an inverted telescope of history, to red Pompeian painting. In the area in front of the entrance to the gallery, the relational performance “Danger” will take place. On a table there will be 128 pairs of square tablets (10x10 cm) with canvas base, oil color tubes and what is needed for traditional painting. The artist, assisted by three assistants,will invite the public to compose a mixture of colors which will be used to paint a pair of tablets. These will be pressed one against the other to form the threedimensional word Danger. One of the two tablets will be arranged on the wall inside the gallery, the other, with an elastic loop, will be given to a person of the public eager to collect it.. He/she will have to carry it on the wrist protecting it from contact, because still fresh with paint. In the gallery the work Monopoli Algorithm 128 will take shape, consisting of the 128 tablets with a total length of cm 160x80.A series of 30 framed sheets relative to the artistic operation projects carried out by the author between 1985 and 2016 will complete the show.

Salvatore Falci born in Portoferraio (LI) in 1950, lives and works in Bergamo. Professor of Visual Arts at the Carrara Academy of Fine Arts in Bergamo, has participated in the Venice Biennale in 1990.
